Preseason Golf Registration at the Morris County Park Commission Golf Courses
MORRISTOWN., NJ–PreSeason Golf Registration is going on right now at Pinch Brook Golf Course in Florham Park from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Morris County Park Commission golf courses offer challenging and rewarding fairways and greens, amid breathtaking views. In a time where the economy is struggling, public courses such as Pinch Brook Golf Course, Flanders Valley Golf Course, Berkshire Valley Golf Course, and Sunset Valley Golf Course are the cost-effective choice for an enjoyable golf experience.

Beginning Saturday, March 13, Pinch Brook Golf Course will be open for registration 7 days a week so choose a day and come on in! PreSeason registration at Flanders Valley Golf Course in Flanders, Sunset Valley Golf Course in Pompton Plains, and Berkshire Valley Golf Course in Jefferson Township begins Saturday, March 20 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., 7 days a week.

The last day of PreSeason Golf Registration is Wednesday, March 31. Call or visit the website to find out what identification is needed to register. The Morris County Park Commission golf courses open for play Saturday, March 27.
Maple Sugaring Demonstrations!
CHATHAM TWP., NJ - Join the fun at one of the Maple Sugaring Demonstrations at the Great Swamp Outdoor Education Center in Chatham Township, held on most Saturdays and Sundays in January and February at 2 p.m. The red maple trees are gearing up for another successful sugaring season this winter! Take a guided walk to discover how maple sugaring has changed over many years. Warm up at the real wood burning evaporator and finish with a yummy syrup taste test!

The maple sugaring season is under way in Chatham Township, and there are many opportunities for learning about tree tapping and enjoying the sweet syrup! Once the sap starts flowing, the staff begins tapping trees, chopping firewood, and boiling down the watery sap into sweet syrup. The hour long demonstrations begin at 2 p.m., so come to the Great Swamp for Maple Sugaring Demonstrations on January 9, 10, 17, 23, 24, and 31, and also February 13, 14, 20, 21, and 27. Learn-to-Skate Wins Recognition Award
MORRIS TWP., NJ – Mennen Sports Arena in Morris Township, has been recognized for instructing the largest number of participants in the country for their Learn-to-Skate program. Mennen’s highest achievement was recognized by U.S. Figure Skating for the 2008-2009 Basic Skills Learn-to-Skate Season. Mennen Sports Arena program is one of eleven arenas/programs in the country which has more than 1,000 participants in the program.

According to Jackie Palawasta, Director of Skating, “While this award recognizes the greatest number of enrolled participants in the country, these numbers are realized because of the outstanding instruction that the participants receive. The staff at Mennen Sports Arena dedicates itself to every single enrolled participant in helping them to achieve their skating goal.”

Program participants include skaters ages three to adult, beginner to advanced level figure skaters, and hockey skating skills. Classes are taught be Mennen’s Elite Staff Coaches which include, former Olympians, show skaters, and competitors. The team of skating professionals brings over 300 years of combined teaching experience, expertise, and compassion to their class instruction.

Mennen Sports Arena’s Learn-to-Skate program is the best beginning ice skating program for both the recreational and competitive skater. U.S. Figure Skating states the objectives of the Learn-to-Skate program are, “To provide a fun and safe skating experience for the beginner, as well as the more advanced skater, to teach correct technique of the simple basic elements, to promote health and physical fitness, and to enable all participants to achieve the skills necessary to either skate for fun the rest of their lives or to move competently into the U.S. Figure Skating advanced test and/or competitive structure.” Mennen Sports Arena has achieved each of these goals as shown by their membership recognition award.
